Marathon Training: Week Eight

A crazy-ass week, for sure.  Preparing for a handful of shows in Europe, so there was a lot of last-minute insanity and prep to do this week… while, of course, keeping up with the training.  Here’s how it all played out:

Sun – 11-20-11: Weights at the gym (Free form, with free-weight focus.)

Mon – 11-21-11: 30 min on treadmill.  The usual – walked first 5 mins, easy jog for 20 on an incline, walked last 5 mins.  Very easy.

Tue – 11-22-11: Workout #1 – Weights at the gym (free-form.)  Had to hit the weights first today, knowing I would be rehearsing late.  Workout #2 – Grueling-ass 5-mile hill run with training group.  There were a couple hellacious hills on this run.  One in particular was so steep that we could hardly control our speed going down it… yet we knew we would have to run back up it after the turnaround point.  Rough stuff.  Ran the whole course, but barely.  Managed a 10:35 average pace, though.  Did some kickin’ core work and stretching with group afterward.  Then had to jump into a full rehearsal tonight, immediately afterward. (Heading abroad on Saturday.)

Wed – 11-23-11:  Knocked out a 5-miler after midnight tonight, once rehearsal was over.  Felt pretty good.  (9:30 average pace, no prob.)

Thu – 11-24-11: Happy thanksgiving!  Caught the gym early for some weight-training (free-form), then had a shorter rehearsal today before the big vegan feast…

Fri – 11-25-11: Because we’re set to leave for Europe early tomorrow morning, I had to take my long run late tonight and make Saturday my rest day this week.  A pretty chaotic day, filled with a bunch of last minute stuff, and a final rehearsal tonight.  Finally made it out there just before midnight for an 8-mile run.  The first couple miles were notably tougher than usual… don’t know why.  Felt like someone was standing on my chest… could not get my wind together.  Settled into a fairly nice groove after that, then felt a bit of tightness for the last mile or two, no biggie.  Again, it’s hard to know if the light fatigue I feel is par for the course, or more a reflection of my lifestyle these days (lack of sleep, tons of activity, full weight training schedule, etc.).  Was glad to get this bitch over with, though, and I obviously did run the whole thing (which is always the main objective, no matter the pace…)  Took an easy 10:25 per…

Sat – 11-26-11: Rest day (Actually, it was a 21-hour travel day to Katowice, Poland… so I’m not sure how “restful” it was!)

With all the travels coming up, we’re heading into the great unknown for Week Nine.  Should be an adventure…
