Quick Check-In from Europe…

Hey Gang –

Checking in from the road real quick… thought I would share a few snippets from life out here. I recognize that posts have been sparse lately… but then again, so has any kind of extra time!  This past couple weeks has been balls-to-the-wall, my friends.

Just played a show in Katowice, Poland tonight at the local sports arena, then we’re off for another hit tomorrow somewhere in the Czech Republik.

Tonight’s show… in a damn spaceship!

I think I mentioned somewhere that I’m out with Alcatrazz featuring Graham Bonnet… which means we’re playing a lot of that cool ol’ Rainbow stuff, as well.  Band sounds great: Howie Simon on guitar, nailing all those Blackmore, Malmsteen and Schenker riffs, a super solid bassist in Tim Luce, and of course, the old pro Graham Bonnet, still out here pipin’ like a motherfucker.

From behind the drums, just after soundcheck.
I have deep sentiment for big, drafty arenas in the winter.  Seriously.

But before the show today… what was my main mission after 21 hours of travel yesterday?  Find a blender, of course!  One of our blog regulars, Trevor, just asked if I take The Ultimate Meal smoothie mix while traveling.  That’s affirmative.  But I can never get the circuitry straight over here – always thinking that a certain adapter will work on my American travel blender.  They never do, so I always wind up buying a 220 volt blender.  I think I’ll keep this one for next time.  Had to grab some bottled water here, as well.

A likely seen in any of my hotel rooms…

Other things I can eat in Poland?  Let’s just say that Katowice is not exactly an epicenter for vegan food!  No problem.  I brought a bunch of stuff with me, plus, once I got to the market, I knew I could add a few extras to options I know they’ll have.

Example:  Got a can of kidney beans from the store (along with some apples and bananas for my smoothies), pulled out some trail mix, then ordered a large salad via room service.  Added the whole can of beans and about half-a-bag of trail mix to the salad, then slipped in a little balsamic, and suddenly we’re living large.  It’s easy to turn a big-ass salad into a full meal by adding denser things like beans and nuts.

Exciting stuff, people!

Marathon training continues pretty much on schedule out here, so I’ll be updating that in the next day or so.  Talk soon…
