Marathon Training: Week Six

A pretty solid week of training.  All seems to be moving along on schedule.  And it appears that my “natural pace” is gradually increasing by at least 30 seconds per mile.  So now instead of super slow, I’m just plain slow.  Seriously, I’ve been feeling good and staying healthy.  Fingers crossed…

Here’s the run-down for this week’s training:

Sun – 11-6-11: Weights at the gym (#2 HST-style routine – 8-rep feature.)

Mon – 11-7-11: Brisk 30 min walk around Balboa park in the evening.  No one else was around.  It was eerie, but cool.

Tue – 11-8-11: Workout #1 – 4 miles with training group, ass-kicking hill work, 10:23 average pace, which is my comfortable pace for regular runs (no hills).  Did 4 total hills, followed by two up-hill 100-yard sprints (sprint up, jog back) – my favorite!  Last time this kind of thing happened, I presumed my coach was trying to “punish” us frontrunners for keeping too brisk a pace.  But now, I just think he’s trying to push us a bit for our own good.  Felt strong, bitches!  Nice cool-down stretching session and another killer core workout with group.   Workout #2 – Weights at the gym (#2 HST-style routine – 8-rep feature)

Wed – 11-9-11: Midnight 4-mile run through suspect LA neighborhood and industrial district!  Felt a light fatigue from yesterday’s hill training, but warmed up good and used the massage stick on my legs to loosen things us.  The run felt really good once I got past the first mile.  Had a 9:45 average pace (and a 9:13 4th mile), which is progress for me.

Thu – 11-10-11: Weights at the gym (#2 HST-style routine – 8-rep feature.)

Fri – 11-11-11: Rest day

Sat – 11-12-11: 6 miles with training group in a light, intermittent rain.  Held a 9:35 average pace, which I know is probably too fast on “long run” day for me at this point. But it’s really easy to unconsciously pace with those in front of you.  I’ll have to make more of an effort to stick to MY gameplan and stay at the slower pace on Saturdays, even if it feels “too easy.”

All for now,

PS. I’m running for my favorite cat and dog rescue group.  Any size donation is appreciated!  Please visit my donation page here:

This is Bo… one of many cats who Kitten Rescue has helped!

All donations are tax deductible and will really help some animals!  Thanks much…
