Welcome to the Warrior Utopia

Okay…as promised in my last entry, I had committed to posting an excerpt or two from my new book, A Season in the Warrior Utopia, by the end of July.  I have about 30 minutes to spare…west coast time.  (Of course, I happen to be on Mountain Time tonight – at a hotel in Salt Lake City – but who’s watching that closely?)

Anyway, this is officially my first public posting of this material, as only a select handful have read any part of it so far. Sharing this stuff feels very different to me than any other kind of music or writing that I believe I’ve ever done.  Why?  Because it wasn’t initially written with the foregone conclusion that I would ever publish it.  I was just writing journal entries.  So in a way, it feels more like I’m handing over a diary, then offering previews from a book.  It’s bizarre.

That aside, I’ll spare you all the usual disclaimers one offers when allowing folks to preview their work. We’ve set up a basic page that will give you a little bit of the backstory, then we’ve included a few entries to get you started.  (Randomly selected from Day 1  and Day 8.)  Soon after should be the Prologue and Introduction so you can have a bit more set-up about how it all went down and what this magical island is all about.  But once you’re through Week One – as you’ll see from scoping out the entire Table of Contents – there is an awful lot that goes down and a ton of stuff to process.

Enough said for now.  Scope it at your leisure:

    Fascinating reading Bobby.

    Just a few questions:

How could such a utopia have so much (apparent) secrecy about it?

Cutting to the chase, what would you say were Zentauria’s biggest negatives, if any?

What currency is used on the island? How is the government/economy/trade structured?

    What is Zentauria’s population?

Is English the native language of Zentauria?

Would those on Zentauria who have what we might consider the more menial occupations, still have a real passion for their work?

Do Zentaurians on the whole travel much outside their own country?

Why would I most likely not be permitted to visit Zentauria, even though its people appear to be so accommodating and humanistically well-rounded.

On the subject of insects, how do you personally deal with annoying mosquitoes and the like?

    Thanks again for your time,

sounds like a great read. just read 1 and 2. are you going to include abraham in any of it? just asking.

VERY interesting–thanks for sharing all this, Bobby! So was this trip over the recent “drought” in you blog postings–when did you get back?

  5. Bobby Rock says:

    Hey Gang –

Thanks so much for checking out the book excerpts and for your comments. More on the way in a day or so.

Trevor; great questions. However…hang tight. Almost all of them will be answered as more entries from the book are posted…especially from Weeks One and Two. Be on the lookout for the following entries, in particular; Prologue, Meeting at Town Hall, Ways of the Warrior Utopia; Act II, and Living Large on Planet Z. Others are answered a little deeper into the book, hence my reluctance to answer them now.

As for your question, “On the subject of insects, how do you personally deal with annoying mosquitoes and the like?”

Personally, I try not to kill ANY living thing, including mosquitoes. My suggestion? Believe it or not, Avon Skin So Soft. Last time I checked, it was animal friendly. Stay tuned for a blog entry on this whole subject. (Oh yes, friends…we cover it all around here!)

To Trinity and Elsie, regarding the teachings of Abraham (by the Hicks Family, I presume?): While I never tried to consciously incorporate their stuff, there are a few things here and there that will call to mind some of their philosophies. Check out the Evening Hour With the X-Man entries as they post on the preview page. They are among my faves from the book, and I think you’ll dig some of that dialogue.

Lisamarie; Can’t get into specifics just yet, but yes, you might say that this book was all-consuming during the “drought” on the blog!

    Thanks again everyone.

Any pictures taken on this journey? 🙂

Pictures? I wish. Video? I really wish! But no. The quiet community wishes to remain quiet…and anonymous.
